This statement could be used as the moral for John Steinbeck’s book The Pearl. The Pearl is a story of a fisherman named Kino whom found a pearl beyond price and doesn’t at the moment understand the dangers that might result from it.
As mentioned earlier I believe John Steinbeck paints a very noticeable moral. Kino is a family man that wants nothing but happiness for his family. You can infer this early in chapter 1 by recognizing the great length Kino goes through to cure his son from a scorpion bite. Kino and Juana (Kino’s wife) take their son coyotito to a doctor but swiftly gets refused because

They are trapped inside their own bubble and because of it are unaware of the oncoming darkness that is lurking within their village. Pearl, a child born from sin and a living embodiment of the act itself, is a complex character in The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Pearl’s personality and actions throughout the novel are reflective of her surroundings, as ignorance to the sin which created her prevents any influence from the concept that her existence is a result of an act which those in a Puritan community find so repugnant that Hester is punished with being the permanent representation of adultery. The unnatural and isolated disposition of Pearl’s life created a child so disconnected from the real world that her character is viewed as one which could be described as supernatural, and in some cases almost demonic. It is the foreign nature of Pearl’s existence which influences Hester’s view of Throughout the entirety of the novel, it is clear that Pearl’s emotions and actions were impacted heavily based on the current situation. Pearl was not yet capable of understanding why her mother was being punished, and was therefore exposed to nothing but the suffering and pain which Hester felt.…

People often think most of their lives; this will happen, or that will happen, or this is the only thing that matters, but their opinions will probably change. In the story “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myers, and The Pearl by John Steinbeck, the authors show us that just because somebody thinks something, it does not make it true. In The Pearl, the main character Kino finds a giant pearl and is consumed by wealth, but later learns that all he really needs is his family. In “The Treasure of Lemon Brown,” a teenager named Greg is longing to play basketball, but can not; then he meets a washed up old blues singer that tells Greg a story that changes his perspective on life.
