In 2009 ,Maya Entertainment made a movie for the Novel The Pearl by John Steinbeck.Both the movie and the book both take place in La Paz ,Mexico. In both the movie and the book Kino finds the Great Pearl and his child Coyotito gets bitten by a scorpion . Very similar things that happen in the book have happened in the Novel For example Kino throws the Pearl in the water to try and make the bad luck go away . However , the movie is very different from the book because it leaves out certain details , For example , Coyotito was supposed to die at the end like he did in the book ,but in the movie he’s alive which is good . In the Story Kino hits Juana because she almost threw the Pearl in the water because she knew that the Pearl will bring her and her family really bad luck . she didn’t want bad luck so as she was getting closer to the water Kino comes out of nowhere and gets the Pearl and then slaps her . Kino only slapped her because he thought that she was gonna steal it but Juana told kino “this thing is evil “ she said , it was like a sin ! (p.38). The movie left out a big part in the book , they missed out that Coyotito got his head blown off by the man with the rifle towards the end of the book . (p.86-87). The Doctor has wanted the pearl for so long he cured Coyotito to try and see if kino would give him the pearl . Kino was a good man he had to kill two people because they almost killed him so he felt brave enough to fight three or four guys . Kino was almost killed by the three or four men but he did it for his family and for his life . Without that pearl Kino can let Coyotito go to school or buy him new clothes so without the pearl Kino would not survive . Kino led the trackers to the top of a mountain but then Kino killed the trackers but then his life and his family’s life were at risk . Their lives were at risk because kino killed the main tracker with the gun and when he killed the main tracker his hand was on the gun and so then he went to go kill the other two trackers .
Except for the ending , the main characters and details in The Pearl movie are the same as the novel .The novel is a little different from the movie the theme remains the same even though a couple of details are changed the main story of the Pearl is great . In the end , Kino that he can trust Juana with the pearl and he learns to take pride in something he wants .
