The Pchip Short Story

t was finally here. I had waited fourteen years to finally be able to visit the ruins of old. It was supposedly a place of knowledge where the Ancients used to come to learn. Apparently people used to have to ¨study¨ in order to absorb information, of course this was all before Pomegranate invented the Pchip to insert into everyone's brains. The Pchip was the solution to a problem that 97.63% of the human population had to deal with on a daily bases: ignorance and stupidity. They are inserted into infants´ brains once they are deemed strong enough to handle them. People now have no need for ¨schools.¨

“Yeah, I’m right behind you.” I reassure her with a fake smile. Once she is gone my brow furrows and my mouth draws into a frown. Why didn’t I feel anything? I mean come on.. If this place was so horrible then shouldn’t I be able to feel something?These are just some of the thoughts racing through my head as I catch up to my group. George stops and stands just in front of door. He gestures to to the to the room and explains to us that it used to be a classroom. Ancients used to sit at the tables in the room called “desks”. The sharer or knowledge would stand at the front of the classroom and lecture. Yet again I wait for feelings of depression to wash over me, but still I feel nothing. We move a little further down the hallway we are in and yet again we stop. “This is a bulletin board. People used to stick pieces of paper on this to announce upcoming events. That was all before we ran out of trees and no longer had any paper to write on.”Our guide tells us even though we all already know this. “Isn’t it a little ironic that there was a book written about all the trees being cut down way before it even happened?” Isaac whispers to …show more content…
I roll my eyes and we continue. Next we stop at a large expanse of space with rows and rows of tables. On a small portion of the tables there is food. This must be the cafeteria where the Ancients used to eat and socialize before having to go back to their classes. I think we get to eat here! Someone has put out a small lunch of sandwiches nf fruit for us to enjoy. Once we are done eating the tour continues. By the end of it wall we have seen a classroom, a bulletin board, the cafeteria, the principal’s office, a locker, and a gymnasium. Everytime we went someplace new I expected to feel something, but every time I was let down. Finally it is time to go and am thankful that I no longer have to be there. On the way home while everyone has fun and chats about useless things, I stay quiet and contemplate all of the places I visited today and what they mean. When we get home, Dad asks me If I had fun. I slip a fake smile onto my face and say yes. I don’t know why I ever wanted to go to that place. It was just a dusty, old building where people used to learn. Whatever happened there might have been bad for some people but I guess I won’t ever get to know because that was a long time ago. People make high school seem larger than life but when you see it for your own eyes, It’s a actually really puny. Maybe my trip to SeaWorld will be
