Benjamin Martin is a fictional character who is based off of Francis Marion. Francis Marion in some ways is different from Benjamin Martin. However in some aspects they are the same. For example, Benjamin Martin and Francis Marion participated in the British army. But, they also differ because Francis Marion raped and forced himself upon his slaves. And the slaves genuinely loved him and his children. Slavery was a big part during the Revolutionary War. So Benjamin Martin being warm hearted towards the Africans was very rare and unusual. This proves that they wanted Benjamin Martin to seem as a kind hearted man. So, in the movie The Patriot Benjamin Martin is somewhat accurate to …show more content…
In the movie General Cornwallis looks to be an older male in his 50’s. He was very hot headed and conceited. He fought the Patriot’s mostly in South Carolina. However this is very different from history.General Cornwallis was actually in his 40’s. Although he did fight in South Carolina. He was not arrogant or pusillanimous . Like how they depicted him in the movie during the battle of Cowpens. While his army was fighting, he was hiding away in the back of his army. If the movie was accurate General Cornwallis would be in the front. Fighting alongside his men in harms way. This proves that the movie really wanted to stress how cowardly and arrogant he is. The wanted to emphasize that he is the antagonist by drawing further away from the accurate
