The Patriot Chapter Summaries

Benjamin Martin and his seven kids live in a household together. His son Gabriel wants to be in the army. Gabriel is already seventeen. His father does not like the idea but he lets him. Gabriel goes off to a war and comes back wounded. They all take care of him and the other soldiers that later came to their house. The next day, officers from their army came and saw that Gabriel and others had escaped. They take Gabriel to kill him but his younger brother Thomas tries to hurt the officers to save his brother. One of the officers kills Thomas but still takes away Gabriel. The officers then light their house on fire. Benjamen then runs back into the house and grabs weapons such as guns and knifes. He tells his daughter two bring her two younger siblings to hide in the fields …show more content…
Gabriel ends up changing his mind and not going into the war. Benjamin wants to start a militia to fight the redcoats. He and Gabriel split up and go to different towns to get people to join. There, Gabriel meets the love of his life. They both come back with around forty people to fight the redcoats. Benjamin makes minie’ balls out of Thomas’ toy soldiers. The militia continues to fight against the redcoats. When the redcoats take people from the militia to hang them, Benjamin tricks the leader of the redcoats to trade their people. Benjamin gets all of his soldiers back and they are united once again. The redcoats come to the church where Gabriel's wife is in and they set it on fire with everyone in it. She ends up dying. Gabriel runs away to kill the redcoats and he bring some other soldiers with him. He is furious with them because they killed his wife. Everyone dies except Gabriel and another leader of the redcoats. Gabriel thinks he is dead but when he comes to stab him again to make sure, the opposing soldier turns around and stabs Gabriel and kills
