No event more so than the American Revolution. There have been many movies made that portray the major events that have molded our great country. In essence, a timely film that I feel illustrates American Colonies struggles during the American Revolution War is the movie, The Patriot. The film was centered on Benjamin Martin, a single father of seven during the Revolutionary War. The film took place in South Carolina from 1778 until the 1781 “Siege of Yorktown” where General Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington. (11) The movie attempted to show the resentment of American colonists for the purpose of being taxed by the British Parliament. Notably, the frustrated colonists felt such taxes shouldn’t be implemented without an elected delegate in the matter. The colonists were split between those that believed in an independent nation and those that still held allegiance to the Crown. In Charleston, South Carolina, they voted in agreement on a Levy that would initiate the war with Britain. However, Benjamin Martin did not vote for the Continental Army. (11) When the battleground of the war reaches his front door step, Colonel William Tavington killed Thomas, one of his sons, in cold blood. Following this event, Martin’s oldest son was abducted and dragged through the dirt to be hung at a later time. Martin arms himself with his hidden away hatchet, knives and guns from fighting as a soldier in the French and Indian War. He then takes his two youngest sons, whom he taught how to shoot, and waited alongside of the road for the merciless soldiers that had just left Martin 's home. The three of them took down the British soldiers, which ended in bloodshed. (11) Martin used his hatchet and knives on the remaining soldiers, freeing his son. Martin and his boys then travel to a South Carolina militia camp, where he accepts a Colonel
