The Patriot Act 5 Summary

The Patriot starts off on a peaceful farm in South Carolina that has nothing special about it. In this scene all of the characters are introduced and all the actors names are given. A postman arrives at the house to deliver mail that was very scarce at the time. That night, they finally get to open the mail after Mel Gibson’s character Benjamin Martian asked what was in the mail and they all find out what they have been waiting for all day. The boys find out that they have been invited to Charleston for the assembly and will stay with their aunt. While in the city, the family is overlooking a protest that is happening with people yelling and things being burned. Gabriel writes to his family telling us about how it is fighting and about his friend that had died fighting. The middle son Thomas reads this letter to the rest of the children. Thomas gets caught wearing his father's old military fatigues and holding his dad’s old hatchet. Thomas asks his dad when he can join the army and his father says in two years when he is seventeen. Thomas gets mad when he says this because he thinks that the war will be over by then.The scene switches to the family outside listening to all of the gun and cannon shots in the distance. Ben becomes a Colonel and his son is now under his command.Gabe now goes to a town to recruit soldiers and ends up recruiting quite a bit of them. Every movie has a montage and this one was of recruiting and ambushes on the redcoats. At this point, Gabe and his father make bullets out of Thomas’s toy soldiers.
