The things I would not change about the book would be the characters. I like how each of the characters are represented as, and kind of what happened. I would not change would be the personalities of each character, for example Clay is a nice, shy, and sweet boy. I like the cafe scene where Hannah, Jessica, and Alex did there stress free circle. I would also not change the setting of the story, for example where it takes place, in a small town with a small high school. I would only change the end, and some parts of the middle of the story. The simple things I would change is the whole party scene with the rape, and her not speaking up about the rape that Bryce committed. I would also change the whole thing about him meeting some of …show more content…
For the main change of the story I would change would be when Clay is in Tony’s car listening to the last tapes, and when Tony tells Clay about why he had the tapes, he would tell Clay something else. Instead of telling Clay why he had the tapes he would also tell Clay something else after the tapes. Tony would say the same thing about she gave him the tapes because he had a car that played old tapes, and he was the perfect one to be doing this. When Clay finds out he could have stopped it, Tony says that she is still alive. Clay is confused what he is talking about, so Tony tells Clay about her hiding out somewhere, faking her suicide. Tony says you have to get there fast because Tony says that if you can not help her by that night she is going to actually commit suicide. So Tony gives Clay a bunch of clues where she is at, so Clay is trying to solve all these riddles, and clues he finally figures it out. Clay tells Tony that he figured out where she is hiding Tony says “What do you think”. Clay replies her home town. Clay is right she is hiding out in her home town, but Tony says you are

Maia Szalavitz, a journalist for TIME.com writes “the more connections we have and the stronger our bonds are to each other, the more likely we are to survive, not just physically but emotionally”. Hardships become easier to endure when connecting with people or groups who have experienced similar emotions. As mentioned previously, Cormac McCarthy admirably grasped this concept in his novel The Road when he introduced father and son into a harsh dystopian atmosphere.
