I interpret Baca's view of education at the age of seven to be similar to the way Jewish victims viewed Adolf Hitler during the Holocaust. " Teachers had been punishing me for not knowing my lessons by making me stick my nose in a circle chalked on the blackboard" (Baca 4). Baca felt deep-seated shame for not comprehending the information presented to him. In a rare instance, history offers us a glimpse of life in the New World colonies from the perspective of someone who knew it best, a native. Guaman Poma, an elitist Andean describes Incan society under the new system consisting of corregidores in an account written to the Spanish king. His goals when writing his account were to criticize the actions of the Spanish towards the Natives and to get them to turn their backs on their malicious ways so that they could return once again to glorifying God's name. One way in which Poma effectively gets his point across is through the contrasts he makes between the Natives and the Spanish (a technique that Las Casas implements in his Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies). By including the dualities…

Most people believe “El Chupacabra” is a myth while others don't. Although many have claimed that they have seen it, they don’t have proof. It may just be some stray dog, or canine-type creature. Tapirs are large mammals that belong to the Perissodactyla order (Galetti et al. 2001). They are the only species currently present from the Pleistocene megafauna, which makes them the ideal mammal capable of dispersing large seeded fruit in Central and South America (Simpson 1980, Eisenberg 1981). Although there are currently four species of tapirs (Norman and Ashley 2000), this essay will focus on the lowland tapir, Tapirus terrestris. It is important to note that the mountain tapir, Tapirus pichaque, will be mentioned along with significant concepts relating to it.
