The past should have no relevance in todays society, we are currently living in the present and that is how we should live our lives. If we dwell too much on the past we will not be able to enjoy the pleasantries that our current world has to offer us. Those who focus on the past inevitably cannot function in our constantly changing technologically driven world, instead you should What do people obtain from celebrating and lingering over the past? What does reading a book about the struggles and hardship endured by the Jews during the Holocaust for example reward me with? Glory? No, of course it doesn’t, instead it gives us a sense of despair and sorrow towards the people who endured the appalling pain and hurt caused by the Nazis. Although looking back at stories such as the Holocaust and ones from World War Two make us grateful for the luxuries and security that most of us all have, it also inhibits us from focusing on our current goals and our mission in life. Supposedly we can learn to obtain meaning of our lives from how my great grandfather lived his life. A lot of people agreed with this person and in my opinion having the idea of looking back at the past in hope of bringing solace or clarity to one's current life is idiotic. People who lived during the fifties right up till the nineties lived vastly different lives compared to us. We are currently in a world where technology and science is to the fore and constantly changing how we spend our time. The technology available today was a dream for people back in the “good old days”, hence making the people who lived back then
