It also touches upon the sad truth that some decisions are not always the best decisions just because they appear to be. Although no one in the real world will be time traveling anytime soon, everyone makes choices daily, and 11/23/63 tries to persuade people to think about the consequences of their decisions before engaging in an

Through the use of both passive and violent diction, as well as simile, Stephen King’s “The Shining” depicts how the concept of control affects both Jack and Wendy to conform to traditional gender roles, where the male is more aggressive and in charge of caring for his family, and the female is more passive and accepting of the conditions around her. Through the use of violent diction, King identifies how Jack deals with not being in control. When Al tells Jack that he is forbid to write a book on the Overlook, King depicts Jack by saying “His head was throbbing with the hot, acid etched words he wanted to get out” (King 276). Before thinking of some form of solution and maintaining a leveled head, Jack immediately becomes filled with…

In “Morning in the Burned House,” Margaret Atwood suggests that when recalling the past there is a tendency for a person to desire dwelling in the past instead of living in the present, therefore there must be a destructive force in order to reinforce reality and continue progress. The author of the poem carefully chose the title as it reveals a lot about the entire meaning of the poem. Atwood used words such as morning, burned, and house in the title. Morning might be a connotation of a new beginning or a symbol of hope, but it is the opposite of its homonym, “mourning,” which is usually attached to grief or sorrow.…
