The passion of Christ was biblically accurate for the most part. Some scenes were created to draw the attention of the audience. There was although some similarities between the movie and the bible. And some that were not even in the bible at all. The movie focuses more on the torture, violence and death of Jesus. There is only a brief scene that shows the resurrection of Christ.
In the beginning of the movie, it begins in the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus is praying. It showed a snake that was crawling around him. Jesus stamps the snake to death. The movie was trying to show that he was tempted while praying. The bible however does not suggest that he was experiencing temptation during the prayer of garden. The disciples however were tempted to sleep but not by snakes. In the bible, nothing got stamped to death. It was for the movie intention to foreshadow the violence is about to come. The location was biblically correct because in Matthew 26:36 it said “Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” It also mentioned that it was in Mount Olives in Luke 22:39. Also in the bible it does say that the disciples were tempted to sleep because in Luke 22: 45-46, “When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” (NIV) Also in the film Jesus…
