Passage Of Time Reflection

At first glance I assumed the documentary “ The Passage of Time” was only about people who are sixty year old or older. As I watched the film, and saw that the people interviewed where of all ages, I began to really take the documentary in. I watched and listened to the people tell their stories realizing that I too had already had those experiences or dreamed of having those experiences. Most of the stories I could relate to such as the single parent house hold (did have a stepfather), the not wanting to be alone, reverting back to being a child when in fear, and troubles with dating.
My household growing up was with a mother, a stepfather and a sister. My stepfather is now deceased, but he was a very honest, caring, loving and no nonsense man. As a child, I thought he was a very strict person. I never fathom that he could have been raising us and showing us the emotions and ways from which he was raised. As I have grown up, I have noticed that I apply a lot of what he taught me in my life. As I matured, I realized that he was not just being strict, but he was trying to guide me and prepare me for adulthood. I can now see the mistakes in

A lot of men these days don’t think about the future and that most humans being don’t want to grow old alone. The documentary also describe the aging process through the people interviewed. Before viewing the documentary, I did not realize there so many fears of aging because aging is a natural transition everyone goes through. I now understand not all people embrace getting older. As a CNA, I deal with people who are of the elderly age and yes I have encountered some patients who have those old tall tales of their back in the days stories, but never had anyone every revealed to me how they truly felt about the process they

I have been able to re-establish a relationship with my dad and he truly is remorseful for the pain he caused not only his children, but his parent’s as well. Susan Jacoby’s big argument is how Americans and baby boomers are blinding themselves from the true reality of old age. She says Americans do believe that, “we are going to get older, but not actually old”. The American culture sees being old as a good thing, as long as one doesn’t experience any typical health problems of people who are “old old”. This new ageism in America disapproves old age and that is stopping us from having a clear image of it. Jacoby says that old age has changed because some boomers believe they can stay “forever young” and that ninety may soon become the new fifty.…

The portrayal of older characters in Disney animated films was written by Tom Robinson, Mark Callister, Dawn Magoffin, Jennifer Moore. This article is about what the title says, how older characters are portrayed in Disney films and how it has a lasting effect on how children view the elderly after watching these films. The article talks about how children view older people because of how Disney movies portray them and how if there are stereotypical characteristics of the elderly in the movies, it will rub off on the children who are watching them. One thing it talks about is how they are portrayed physically, such as, having wrinkles, gray hair, no teeth/missing teeth, using a cane or a wheelchair, having glasses on, and having an unsteady/cracking…

Some of the fears that were brought up by Norma, are similar to those that are being brought up by others members of the older generation; unresolved fears about aging, finances, and retirement. In order to calm those fears we need to be educated enough so we can provide awareness and provide resources to them. We also need to be able to understand the changes they go through as they experience the aging process and the shift into retirement. Norma says that even though she worries about what life will be like, she takes one day at a time because she knows that time flies by quickly. “When you are young you think you will never get to 18, then 25, and then 40, 50 etc.…

Time shapes many aspects of our daily lives. We draw on the past, experience the present, and prospect the future. Dealing with time is a fundamental feature of human experience, both objective, so-called clock time, and subjective, personal constructions of time. Time perspective (TP), which is a basic dimension of subjective time, emerges from cognitive processes partitioning human experience into past, present, and future temporal frames (Zimbardo and Boyd, 2008; Zimbardo and Boyd, 1999). A great deal of research in the field of TP emphasized the importance of this construction in the regulation of behavior, such as risky taking, health behaviors, and substance abuse (Breierwilliford and Bramlett, 1995; Fieulaine and Martinez, 2010; Henson…

I have not come across anyone who has had a perfect life, and being in the human service profession I especially do not expect to ever find someone who has. As a professional in training I understand that I will be able to someday help others through difficult times in their life like finding a new job, arranging childcare for their children, comforting someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one, or a couple seeking help with their relationship. I also understand that I will be put in the situation to help someone who has different beliefs or comes from a different culture than I have. Such as helping a homosexual individual tell his or her…
