The Painted Bird Holocaust

The painted bird, a dazzling creature doomed to be torn apart by his comrades. An animal that has done nothing reprehensible, but because of his anomaly, he is slaughtered by his own kind. In connection to The Painted Bird, one could compare the demise of the painted bird to the holocaust. If you use the painted bird to represent any group of people who have been shunned by society, you could correlate the killing of the painted bird to genocide. We usually think of the Jewish holocaust as being one of the only mass killings in history, when in reality, genocide has been a massive part of 20 and 21st century human history.
