The author from the article talks about social separated the black and the white had and says, ““Jim Crow” laws at the local and state levels barred them from classrooms and bathrooms, from theaters and train cars, from juries and legislatures.” (History.com staff). This quote is a perfect example of division between black and white because, there was literally a law that separated blacks and whites from having any contact. The Jim Crow law separated blacks and whites from ever having a contact with each and it was in effect everywhere such as in schools, parks, libraries, drinking fountains, restrooms, and restaurants. I think that the laws were made to keep the African Americans downs and were holding them back. I think that it was not right to separate blacks and whites because; it like everyone is supposed to ignore them and think they can see them or hear them and it made them look like they are dangerous. Never the less in the poem the white and black separation is show a bit different and, Du Bois say, “I am daubing God in night, /I am swabbing Hell in white:” (Du Bois), this quote is important because he is saying African Americans have experienced hell by the hands of whites. It can also be seen as; sometime black has been related to evil and white with heaven so, heaven is viewed in perception of whiteness. This shows that people believed that that if you were black you were evil and if you were white you have a good heart. This quote also shows the divide in heaven and hell between blacks and whites. I this that people should have common sense in knowing everyone is created equal and god does not look at color because, if god did then there would only be white
