What is a package handler? It is a person that performs various tasks and typically works for a courier company or in a warehouse environment. Most of these positions are in the service industry. According to businessdictionary.com, the service industry is made up of companies that primarily earn revenue through providing intangible products and services. These companies are involved in retail, transport, distribution, food services, as well as other service-dominated businesses. I have listed a brief description of my current job of package handler, with the duties and responsibilities, as well as the wage and benefit information.
Package handlers are responsible for physically loading and unloading packages by hand. This may include pushing, lifting, carrying, and pulling the item in the most efficient and safe manner. Some handlers have to weigh items, use pallet jacks, forklifts, or other heavy machinery as part of their responsibility. Other duties include but are not limited to the following:

Most times the hourly wage is the only factor considered when applying for a job, but the benefits are also very key and should be considered in the decision process also. FedEx begins at a $9.00 an hour rate, but advertise three pay increases within the first six months of employment. Their package handlers can receive cash bonuses, profit sharing, stock options, and tips as well as access to retirement and pension plans. UPS states that its employees receive a competitive hourly rate with an attractive benefits package that includes healthcare, vision, and dental plans, stock options, and educational assistance. Amazon offers its Warehouse/Fulfillment Associate $11.50 per hour with health insurance and retirement plans after 1000 hours worked.
