The human race produces CO2 in ways that one may not even realize, including driving a car. Every time that a car burns one gallon of gasoline it produces twenty pounds of CO2. Another way that CO2 is released into the atmosphere is by aircraft travel. Aircraft emissions are more harmful to the ozone layer because the CO2 is released at a higher altitude and is able to reach the ozone layer in much shorter time. The aircraft emissions account for eleven percent of the emission that are produced by the United States transportation sources and three percent of the United States total CO2 emissions. Twenty-six percent of the harmful emissions come from modes of transportation that human beings use each and every day. The United States alone is responsible for roughly half of the nationwide CO2 …show more content…
This can be related to the addition of water to the oceans through one of two ways. The melting of ice burgs near the polar ice caps is one of the more common ways, but also calving is a way. Calving is the breaking or chipping of ice burgs. This causes ginormous ice burg to become smaller and this makes them melt quicker. In addition to the increasing rates of melting, global warming would also be expected to make the amount of precipitation in the Polar Regions increase. Warmer air causes more precipitation by being able to carry more moisture than the cold air that is usually found in this region. An increase in the water temperature in the regions also leads to more precipitation because the water will evaporate much more easily. As temperature increase and more ice melts, more of the oceans water will be exposed to directly sunlight, whereas in the past the ice covered the water protecting it from the sun. With the water being directly exposed to the atmosphere, this will lead to an increase in evaporation and in return, more precipitation. Not only does the warming of the Polar Regions affect the sea level, it also negatively affects the habitats of animals that live there. With the polar ice caps melting, there is less habitat for many species to live in. The ice burgs and melting and drifting farther apart which for one animal in particular makes living conditions hard, that is
