Gothic Elements. ”The Oval Portrait” and And Then There Were None have similar gothic elements. In “The Oval Portrait” the setting is and abandoned castle which has no lighting. Then the main character and his valley's only source of light is a candle. In the castle it is very dark and spooky. In Christie's And Then There Were None the setting is in a castle that can be looked at as spooky. During the night people have candles and lamps for the source of light. The two books mood/ tone had many similarities and differences between them. In “The Oval Portrait” there was a dark, scary, creepy, and paranormal feeling. It did so from its setting of a dark castle/manor. Then when in the apartment room of the castle/manor was creepy. It had many paintings and a book about the paintings. The painting put the paranormal feel to it and its creepiness. In And Then There Were None, it had a supernatural feel, dark, and a creepy feel as well. You felt as if though the killer was right there with you. You also had a feeling as if anything can happen. Although there are some similarities, there are also a few differences. For instance, And Then There Were None had ten dead people within/throughout the book. Were as “The Oval Portrait” only had one. Also, And Then There Were None, had more of a creepy killing feel. But, “The Oval Portrait” had more of a paranormal and supernatural
