The Outsides By S. E. Hintion Analysis

Decent Essays
In S.E. Hintion's book the outsides. There are two groups that fight agents each other. There are greasers and socs. There are differences between the greasers and the socs. I can identify with both the greasers and the socs.
Differences exist between the greasers and the socs. For example, the greasers have long greasy hair, they where jeans and leather jackets, and the socs have short clean hair, and where madras shirts and slakes. This shows that these groups have different fashion sense. Another example is the way they act. The greasers smoke, drink, fight fair, insult girls, and go to rodeos. The socs fight unfair, preppy, and through beer blasts. This proves that greasers and socs act way different from each other.

Lipsyte’s essay can be seen as a pessimistic approach to this inequity between Jocks and Pukes, but light is shown at the end of his essay with Bill Stowe. Bill Stowe, a former Jock, is able to see Jock Culture the way Lipsyte, a Puke, sees it, meaning there is still hope for some change. When Lipsyte says “We’re on the same page, the coach [Bill Stowe] and I. There’s hope.…

The Outsiders Essay Are the Greasers and the Socs really that different or are they more alike that they realize? Greasers are a gang of kids, who live on the East side, that banded together because of a series if likenesses that they share. These two groups think that they are different, but their similarities outweigh their differences in 180 pages of literature by S.E. Hinton. Even though Greasers and Socs come from different worlds and have different problems they have more in common than they think.…

    S. E. Hilton’s novel and popular film The Outsiders expresses a variety of internal and external conflicts including the main conflict in the novel, which is the division and struggle among social class. The two groups, Socs and Greasers, are drastically different, but also similar in a variety of ways. Socs and the Greasers are merely adolescents struggling with personal and social complications that unfold within society. As the greasers are portrayed as low-life scum no-good-for-nothing-dirt-bags, and on the other hand, Socs are depicted as privileged rich kids who catch all the “big breaks.” What determines to where each member of society belongs which group is the individual’s appearance and finance.…

In the film, two gangs are introduced, the Socs and the Greasers. The groups have two very specific looks and carry a great deal of pride with them. The Socs are the typical privileged, rich and educated kids who are known for their preppy appearances and fancy cars. Meanwhile, the Greasers are the lower-class rascals, who are known for their long, silky, greased hair. Hinton uses these stereotypes, regarding appearances, and the consequences of those assumptions to reveal to the readers that appearances don't relate to personalities.…

Write an essay in which you explain what she may have meant by The Outsiders. Be sure to define what you mean by an outsider, and then explain who you think Ms. Hinton was referencing when she titled her book.…

Because of this, greasers are seen as a menace to society, even if the Socs are just as bad. Like in this example where Ponyboy explains the dynamics, “We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in awhile.…
