The Outsiders Theme Of Social Class

The theme of social class that is talked about in the first chapter of The Outsiders is not too broad of a topic. Right off the bat the first thing that is talked about is home greasers can’t walk be themselves because they will get jumped by the socials. The socials are “west-side rich kids” and they are gang just like the greasers are (Hinton page 2). In this town what decided on which gang you were in was social class. If you lived in the rich side of town you were in the socials and if you were in the east side of town you were in the greasers. The greasers were “poorer than the socs and middle class” and this also shows you that the greasers lived in the hood that we called today and they were in the low class (Hinton page 2). Like I

The documentary People Like Us: Social Class in America points out the existence of several cultural levels among our population. Moreover, the film provides a detailed look at the lives of families in each of these levels and what they represent. Featured families range from one living in a small trailer with no running water to the other with its members riding through The Hamptons while in the backseat of a convertible. Naturally, each of these groups possess the qualities and manners pertinent to their subculture. One of the points stresses the fact that a person cannot change their social class and that they are permanently locked-in right where they were born.…

Obstacles faced by youth today and youth in The Outsiders are both, very, different from each other. In The Outsiders an obstacle youth greasers faced was getting jumped by socs because if any greaser got into a fight with a soc it would immediately get put onto the greaser if a police were to show up. Today, if that were to happen both teens would probably get sent to the police station and get put on a warning but not one kid would be accused if they didn’t have any proof of the fight happening. Another obstacle that youth in The Outsiders had faced was when Johnny killed the soc to save Ponyboy, he didn’t have many people to tell because he was afraid, his parents wouldn’t have cared, and he couldn’t tell the police because greasers were seen bad by police even if they didn’t do anything. In our…

Greasers and Socs are stereotyped. The Greasers are the poorer people that live in the ghettos on the east side and they also slick their hair back with grease. The Socs are the rich people that live on the west side and have everything they want, good grades, cars, and the ability to get away with almost anything. The greasers are stereotyped as the violent hoods and criminal, whereas the Socs are seen as the smart, athletic kids. When talking about, The Outsiders, stereotypes influence and change the way people act.…

    S. E. Hilton’s novel and popular film The Outsiders expresses a variety of internal and external conflicts including the main conflict in the novel, which is the division and struggle among social class. The two groups, Socs and Greasers, are drastically different, but also similar in a variety of ways. Socs and the Greasers are merely adolescents struggling with personal and social complications that unfold within society. As the greasers are portrayed as low-life scum no-good-for-nothing-dirt-bags, and on the other hand, Socs are depicted as privileged rich kids who catch all the “big breaks.” What determines to where each member of society belongs which group is the individual’s appearance and finance.…

For my film analysis, I chose to analyze the movie “The Outsiders” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel “The Outsiders” by S. E. Hinton. In this movie, a gang of outcasts from the north side of town called the Greasers are always fighting against a rival group called the Socials, who are the rich jocks from the south side of town. The story follows two young Greasers, Johnny and Ponyboy, who aren’t like the others. These two see that fighting is pointless, but it’s just the way they live their life. The two boys get into a fight with some Socials and end up killing one.…

Social class in America is an uncomfortable subject for many Americans; most believe that America is an essentially middle-class nation, however, author Gregory Mantsios argues otherwise. In this article, I will break apart “Class in America-2012” and explain how it creates a persuasive effect on readers. Mantsios accomplishes this effect by debunking popular myths through statistical evidence and providing real-life examples. This analysis will only provide the author’s opinions, and not my own, as to remain objective and fair throughout. Is the social class divide in America as large as most Americans think?…

The Socs and the Greasers always have major conflict due to many reasons such as their style, their wealth, and who is better. Both Johnny and Ponyboy are Greasers along with their other relatives. Greasers is a wild gang that has an edgy style with their hair long hair slicked back with a generous amount of grease, hence the name given, Greasers. On the other hand Socs are completely different when it comes to their looks. Socs wear basic madras shirts and usually are wealthy with light colored hair such a blonde.…

It’s commonly told that any animal with sympathy, will willingly take in another creature as their own. Such as wolves raising a human child, a familiar tale of an unlikely group loving an anomaly to their standards. In such cases, the species can be very much alike, such as a human to a human, however their personalities, traits, and natural environments are very different. This is seen throughout The Outsiders, within the Greaser Gang everyone has a different home life, personality, and have all grown up differently. The likeness of each other is their social status and the fact that they all love each other.…

Compared to the “free love” nowadays, people of the mid-century are more concerned about matching on social class. If you couldn’t support your life, couldn’t own a place to live, couldn't keep life security at a certain level, then “love” is meaningless. In novel Pride and Prejudice, class systems controlled the quality of life. In the society, people have been divided into different groups, like level one class was decided at decides which lifestyle they belong too.…
