Every kid who reads The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, learns something, in this case that “something” isn't good. What kids learn from reading The Outsiders is that they're allowed to smoke at such a young age, they're allowed to run away from home whenever they would like, and that they're allowed to carry deadly weapons around with them. All this stuff that kids learn from reading The Outsiders will carry on with them thru life. Maybe kids aren't allowed to purchase deadly weapons now or kids aren't allowed to drink alcohol or smoke, but when they're older or when they're adults, all this stuff will carry on with them. They might do the activities they learn from the book in real life. The book The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, should be put on a banned book list because it puts the wrong ideas in kids’ heads about what reality is really like.
The Greasers and the Socs are two gangs that promote violence. If kids read The Outsiders they might think it's ok to fight or they might think fighting is cool (why wouldn't they think that if there teachers are literally handing them the book that is full of violence and kaaos). The people that are defending the story dont care about the bad activities that go on in the story (more than half of the book is filled with bad activities) they just care about the good activities. What they're saying is The Outsiders, teaches friendship and getting over rough times. Clearly that doesn't make sense because all the good stuff in the book turns bad or turns into something worse that what it was in the beginning.
