I say this because they’re many things that the Socs do that affect the Greasers, and the fact that they keep doing it, means that they want to gain something from doing those negative actions. For example on page 4, the text says “We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next.” And also on page 5, the text says “I about decided I didn't like it so much, though, when I spotted that red Corvair trailing me. I was almost two blocks from home then, so I started walking a little faster. I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn't pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. Johnny was sixteen then. Those things that the Greasers do might have an impact on the Socs that we don’t know, which lead to the Socs picking on the Greasers. But it isn’t the Greasers fault that they have to rob stores and steal things to live the life they want. Even if it had an impact on the Socs the Socs could have just told the Greasers to rob different stores that are in different areas that don’t affect them if that’s the case. Also, other people might say it’s the Greasers fault because, during the book where Johnny and Ponyboy were in the lot, when they saw the blue Mustang circling around the lot. They had multiple choices they could have taken. They could have hidden, or ran away before the mustang approached them. But instead they decided to stay and wait until the blue Mustang approached them, which later caused Bob’s death due to the actions both the Socs and Greasers did. But even if Johnny and Ponyboy were in the lot while the blue Mustang was circling around the lot, that doesn’t change the fact that the Socs have to bother them.
