Characters in various books often undergo tremendous changes in life that alter the way the character feels and acts. In S. E. Hinton’s book The Outsiders, Ponyboy Curtis’s life takes a big turn when his best friend Johnny kills a man when the two boys were being attacked. After a series of events that follow, Ponyboy and Johnny become heroes when saving children from a burning church that the two boys hid in for a while. Unfortunately, the rescue trip leaves Johnny dead from a back injury and Ponyboy in burns and bruises.
