This article shows us how odd it can be viewing someone's culture when you have a different culture. It may be hard to understand or adapt to something you are not used to. Even when it is your own culture described differently it may seem out of the norm to us.
How does the “scholarly gaze” affect our perception of another’s culture?
I think coming from a scholar we tend to trust their opinions and perspective more. They have more credibility compared to someone else that could be making it up. Just by using different words and labels he was able to convince us that he was describing a completely different society.
