The rich are well educated and does not worry about financial problems while the poor often has to dropout to feed the family. The rich fight to entertainment themselves and to prove that they are stronger than the greasers. With the help of the car, they are at an advantage at a fight while the greasers can only defend themselves, travelling by foot. Yet, from the conversation Ponyboy and Cherry had, we can see that they do have similar interest such as literature and music, despite their difference in social background.
There was a lot judgement throughout the film between the rich and the poor. On their way to the hospital after the fire, the teacher was shock to hear that Ponyboy is a greaser. This is evidence of society’s judgement. I learnt that there is always different sides to a story. The Socs are always portrayed as being carefree but Cherry mentioned in the film that they have their own problems too. Although Cherry plays a small role in the film, she is the one that constantly gives insights of the Socs to the greasers, providing a different perspective of what the Socs is compared to how society portray them to
