In the book Johnny has a bad relationship with his parents and does not have many friends. Johnny’s friend Ponyboy describes Johnny as a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of stranger. The only people who he trusts are his friends as they comfort and support him. He would always get bullied by the Socials and it was his friends who made him stronger. In the book, Ponyboy said “His father was always beating him up and his mother ignored him.” It states Johnny’s bad relations with his parents. He also get bullied by the Socials because he is a greaser. But he does care for his friends greatly. He cares deeply for his gang and always keeps them on their toes. In the book, Johnny ends up murdering the Social named Bob to save Ponyboy from drowning. Johnny also saved children in the burning church risking his own life. He rarely cares for himself and makes his first priority people around him. He inspires and gives hope to his friends to carry on without him and making him less important. When Ponyboy was complaining about his brother hitting. Johnny says “At least you got Soda. I ain’t got nobody.” Always making sure his friends are OK and know their place in the gang. He never accepts anything and live on with his life and following his heart. Even when he was on the run, he wanted to go back and face the consequence for Ponyboy to live his life and meet his brothers again. He always thinks of others and he leads his decision for them.
