The Outsiders Differences Between Book And Movie

Decent Essays
I think in the film and novel versions of The Outsiders were very different because the music created a mood that did not fit with the mood the novel portrayed, and one of the characters was portrayed very differently in the movie, and a second character was portrayed very differently, and we didn’t love Johnny as much in the movie.

While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the movie was more effective in telling the story.…

Some of the similarities was that the movie had some of the same exact lines from the book such as, “I got a good chance of bein’ let off easy” (Hinton 87). Parts of the movie were exactly like the book. Including the time when Pony, Johnny, and Dally went to Dairy Queen and when Johnny got the food for them when They were at the church (Hinton 87-88). Another similarity is when both Ponyboy and Johnny watch the sunrise and Pony says out loud the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” (Coppola, The Outsiders). Some differences are that when they both start.…

Did you know that in the movie the Outsiders when Ralph Macchio (Johnny) auditioned to play the part of Johnny he rubbed dirt on his face just so he could get the part of Johnny. In the days since the book and the movie are still blowing minds. I thought the book didn’t explain each scene far enough into detail. I thought the movie was more into detail and you could actually see what it was like in real life. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the movie was more effective in telling the story.…

Did you know that the movie for the outsiders is only roughly one hour and thirty minutes. Some might say that the movie the outsiders makes you have less sympathy for Johnny and Dally. I am saying this because in the book Dally sounds like he wanted to die more in the book. I am saying this because when it was written in the book even said he had a look of triumph in his eye, and in the movie, it seemed that he was scared and how he didn't want to die. The book is better.…

In the books The Outsiders and The Lord of the Flies, Hinton’s and Golding’s approaches to the themes of challenges, choices, conformity all contrast. For example, in The Outsiders, Hinton’s approach to challenges contrast Golding’s plot and the way they affect the story. One of the challenges Ponyboy faces is the fact that his parents are dead and his oldest brother, Darry, is supporting the family. On page 3, Ponyboy says, “Since Mom and Dad were killed in an auto wreck, the three of us get to stay together only as long as we behave.” (Hinton 3).…
