“Stay golden ponyboy.” That means that Ponyboy should stay good and not do bad things. I thought the book was okay because it wasn’t really detailed like the movie because the movie had more action about the rumble or when dally robs a store and gets shot or even when Johnny dies. The three-time U.S. track and field Olympian, Gail Devers once stated, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can’t stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the nonfiction book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, the courageous Louis Zamperini emulated with Devers words when, even in times of hopelessness and doubt, he survived a World War II bomber plane crash into the great Pacific, where he was left and considered dead for 47 days. To say the least, Louie’s resilient and courageous personality kept him alive and sane throughout the dire situations…

Hell’s Angels: The True Story of the 303rd Bomb Group in World War II by Jay A. Stout is a revealing insight into the lives of the pilots in the air force at the time of the United States’ entry into WWII. The book primarily concerns itself with telling the history and activity of the 303rd bomb group, providing a detailed description of events and personnel in chronological order starting at the group’s inception. Stout wrote the book because he was a pilot himself and because he wanted to show the conditions pilots had to go through during WWII and the impact they had on the war. He chose the 303rd bomb group specifically because he felt it had the most impact on the European theatre of WWI. Using a mixture of first person biographical descriptions…

The evidence to support falling action events relating to the climax in the novel The outsiders by S.E. Hinton culminated naturally after the climax, which was the death of Johnny in the hospital. Similarly, this event caused the chain reaction death of Dallas who felt Johnny was his reason for living. Furthermore, this event linked the two in death as in their life. To say nothing of the bond that Dally and Johnny shared prior to their deaths the reader could envision the same bleak possibility of a brighter future for either of them. Of course, another major event in the falling action category was the gang rumble to exact retribution again for the deaths on either side, sustaining the cycle of never ending violence.…

It is the outsiders of these texts however, that provide us with the greatest insights into the challenges of caring and provide us with a lens through which we view the love of these relationships. Steinbeck uses his outsiders as a metaphor for the larger world; Crooks accepts both his isolation and judgement, referring to himself as a ‘nigger’ . For the reader, this is a warning it is difficult to love people who are unusual and Steinbeck suggests that we can only be as kind as the world we live in. In contrast, the message that Halstrom offers is far more hopeful. On the one hand, he presents us with a united family who are able to face the most difficult of circumstances by supporting each other, but on the other, he offers a beautiful and…
