Who would want a family to be torn apart? In a situation like this, it would be the correct judgment. Ponyboy Curtis is a 14-year old teenager from New York. Since his parents died, he has been under the care of his 20-year old brother, "Darry" Curtis. While under his protection, Ponyboy has been in many gang related crimes such as murder and assault. Ponyboy will be sent to a foster home, so he will be in less danger, less involved with crimes, and will have better health as his life continues. Foster care will allow Ponyboy to have a better life.

A rival gang, the Socs, could jump and/or kill him at any time in his own neighborhood. If Ponyboy goes to foster care, the Socs should not be able to get to him since they will not know where he lives. Also, with a better financial state than that of his original home, he is safe from a food born illness and malnutrition. There may be a possibility of being neglected in certain foster homes, but many statistics show that Ponyboy has a low chance of being neglected.

Also, without bad influences and examples such as, now deceased, Dallas Winston, Ponyboy will be less likely to be involved in crimes. In the past, Ponyboy was involved in the murder of Bob

Staying in his present neighborhood, he could go to the movies with no guarantee that he will come back safe or unhurt. He may not even come back at all. In a new, better neighborhood, Ponyboy is away from all the gang activity and peer pressure. He will definitely be safer, less involved in crime, and he will make better choices regarding what he eats, drinks, and smokes. So, Ponyboy will have a much better and longer future if he leaves all the controversy, murder, and wrong choices

Ponyboy has been intelligent and gotten good grades all his life, unlike the rest of his gang. Additionally, Ponyboy likes to read and do other things that Socs are interested in, and stay out of trouble. INTRODUCTION Substance abuse is a prevalent issue that carries the massive weight of negative stigmas in the eyes of society. The abusers are seen as social pariahs to the rest of society especially when children are involved. When substance abuse is detected in a home involving children, the first reaction of the public is to remove the child from the home. However, removing a child from their home environment is not always the most logical solution for the health and safety of the child. The Department of Human Services automatically removes children from their parents when drugs are involved in order to correct the parental behavior.…

The evidence demonstrates that the children in foster care are more likely to enter prison because of the instability found within their lives. There could be no strong role models who advocate for strong morals in their lives. The lack of morals would lead to higher rates of prison and prolonging the cycle of the abusive foster care system.…

The Foster Care system for children, has dealt with several complications throughout its 160-year history (Developmental Issues). There has been a lack of knowledge about Foster Care in general, incomplete information being presented to the foster parents, not enough health professionals available in this field, children who are faced with a mental illness who are not getting adequate care, and uncoordinated medical care with records being stretched across the system. Children are placed into the Foster Care System for many reasons. Some have encountered abuse, neglect, abandonment or even death of the family members. Children have all different resulting responses due to the circumstances that placed them in Foster Care, and from being in the system itself.…

Last year the American taxpayers spent twenty-two billion dollars on foster care programs (ABC News 1). It’s a slightly sizeable amount, but it is put to shame when compared to the 600 billion dollars spent on the US Military last year (National Priorities Project 1) . Regardless, I have a solution for this seemingly excessively unnecessary spending. Even Wade Horn, the highest ranking federal official in charge of foster care says the foster care system is a giant mess and should just be blown up (ABC News 1). Why don’t we do just that?…

Just as children are placed in foster care to better their futures, there should be a placement for those who are transitioning out of the system. A lot of times, foster children are left to fend for themselves once they turn 18. A lot of foster parents only carry out the minimum requirements given from the state. After the age of 18, foster parents are no longer legally reliable for the children they take in. Fallacious notions have been made regarding the entire population of foster care children.…
