The Outsiders Persuasive Argument
People should always stay close to their family because that’s the only way to be loved. In the story, The Outsiders, there is a choice whether Ponyboy should go to a boy’s home or stay with Darry. Ponyboy should stay with Darry because Ponyboy would feel loved and protected.
Darry cares for Ponyboy, that’s a good reason why Ponyboy should stay with him. “Where were you ponyboy?-his voice was rising-”Where in the almighty universe were you” (Hinton,49)? This quote shows that Darry cares for Pony and he doesn’t want him to get hurt. If Darry wasn’t worried about Ponyboy, he wouldn’t feel like he would care. “I hate to leave you here by yourself, Ponyboy,”Darry said slowly.”Maybe I ought to take the day off”(Hinton 112). Just like my commentaries above, this shows that he cares for Ponyboy. Also, this shows that he doesn’t want him to get hurt if he’s home alone, so Darry takes the day off just for Ponyboy. This paragraph is explaining that Ponyboy doesn’t need to go to a children’s home when he has a caring brother.

“Well”-darry gave in-”I guess you can. but be careful, and if you get in a jam, holler and i’ll get you out” (Hinton 135).This shows that his brother is there for him if he needs help. Ponyboy doesn’t have to worry about getting beat up because his brother is there for him. “Is darry sorry i’m sick? i had a funny feeling that Darry was sad because i was sick” ( Hinton 155). Ponyboy knows that Darry cares for him and he thinks he feel bad. Another reason is that Ponyboy would be more protected being with his brother than a boy’s home. If Ponyboy went to a boy’s home, he wouldn’t have a real family that would care for him and be there for

In 13 states there are laws allowing a child from the age of 8 to 14, based on maturity guidelines, to stay home alone (Qtd. in the Huffing Post). Although many parents believe the maturity guidelines are too restrictive on more socially reserved children.…
