After the fall of Constantinople the Ottomans created the capital city, Istanbul, in its place. Different from Constantinople the Ottoman was Empire that had strong ties to the Islamic Faith. They represented their faith in the ways that they governed. The Emperor was called a sultan and the empire was consisted of Sunni Muslims. Their army consisted of Janissaries and all Janissaries had to be Muslim and they could not marry or own land. Once the Janissaries were allowed to marry and own land the military became conservative. Along with a conservative military, a shift in the economy and weak sultans led to the decline of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans brought many thing to Europe that were not popular before the rise of the Ottoman Empire. One of the main things that the Ottomans brought to the world or made popular in the world was coffee. Coffee came from the territories of the Ottoman Empire in Saudi Arabia and Eastern Africa. It did not become popular in the Ottoman Empire until the 1500s. By the 1600s the trend of drinking coffee had reached Europe and we can see something that was an effect of the fall of Constantinople in our everyday lives.
