While the author of The Other Wes Moore escaped a troubled childhood, a man of the same name and similar experiences ended up in prison. This Wes Moore ended up in prison because his only male role model is Tony, selling drugs, and was involved in a robbery. The first thing that put Wes Moore on the path to prison is his only male role model was his brother, Tony. Tony was a drug dealer and a “certified gangsta.” (27) Although Tony made it his mission “to give his little brother information he thought he never got,” (27) Tony made a negative impact because Wes just wanted to be like him. Because of Wes only male role model is Tony, it lead to selling drugs. By the time Wes was thirteen, he was already following in his big brother’s footsteps.
