One Name, Two Fates 'And' The Other Wes Moore's Life

Life stories One is Wes Moore, the successful author, businessman and U.S. Army veteran. The Other Wes Moore, is serving a life sentence in prison for felony murder. They have the same name, they grow up in the same poor neighborhood surrounded drugs sellers, without a Father’s figure. Wes Moore, author of the book “The Other Wes Moore-One Name, Two Fates” wrote about his life story and “The Other” Wes Moore. What made they have such different path? The key of their lives: fathers, mothers and life references. The importance of the father figure is visible in the lives of the two Wes Moore, both absent, however for different reasons. The author’s father was a reporter in a radio, a good father and husband, but his life was interrupted by a misdiagnosis of acute epiglottitis causing his death. When Wes’s father died his mom tried to raising Wes and his sisters by herself, but she realized that she need some help, and they moved in Wes’ grandparent’s house. When Wes were getting in trouble and not doing well at school, his mom sent him to a military school and when he wanted give up his mom said “Wes, you are not going anywhere until you give this place a try”(95). She did everything that was possible to make him an integrity person and gives to him opportunities. Similarly, the other Wes Mom one day figure out that he was selling drugs and when Wes came home he found his shoes box, that was where he hide the drugs, empty. Wes gets desperate and ask his mom for his drugs. She looked at him and said “I flushed them down the toilet” (74).
