In contrast, the “other Wes Moore” grew up not knowing his father. Lacking a positive, adult, male figure could be the root of his rebellious behavior. The “other Wes Moore” however, did grow up with an older brother, Tony who influenced him tremendously. “Rule number one: if someone disrespects you, you send a message so fierce that they won’t have the chance to do it again”. Teaching Wes his ways of life, Tony unintentionally introduces aspects of violence to Wes and essentially condones them. The early stages of this behavior are evident when Wes is playing a physically aggressive game of basketball with some boys in his community. Wes’ excessive defense frustrates another player, which sparks an argument. Wes then proceeds to run back home
