Even though the movie The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) looks like it describes some historical events, in fact it demonstrates an eternal rivalry that exists between two opposite kinds of women who try to gain a man’s attention and love. Anne and Mary Boleyn, despite being sisters, are absolutely different characters, whose methods of getting the king Henry’s VIII love are totally diverse. Mary appears to be more sophisticated and simple, she is kind and forgiving; when Anne is mean and competitive, she is highly ambitious and far-seeing.

In the scene where Anne returns from France and makes a spectacular apparition in king’s banquet, she demonstrates that she’s going not only to become the king’s mistress but she aims to be the queen, which is extremely ambitious of her. While Mary agrees to endure kind’s cold attitude and deliver a child to his majesty, Anne doesn’t want to find herself in similar weak position, so she uses manipulation and sexual blackmail to get what she wants. Eventually, the king gets affected by Anne to a great extent and is willing to give up everything, even to start a war, to get Anne. These two different choices that the sisters make prove that Mary is more pure and loving, when Anne is more arrogant and ambitions, she never stops.
Taking into consideration the two scenes analyzed above, it is very clear that Anne and Mary are absolutely opposite characters with different attitudes to life and approaches to relationships.
