To begin, I am not one to watch award shows often so I don't know much about the who gets nominated, but after glancing at past winners of the Oscars I believe a little more diversity would be great. I don't feel that the Oscars purposefully lacks diversity within its nominees, it just happens. The pool of nominees is selected from movies put out during the time frame of that years Oscars, so maybe the problem stems further into who selected the actors/actresses to play a particular role in a film. Diversity can be lacking in movies as well, not because of racial prejudice, but because a certain character is necessary to accurately fulfill the role needed.
