The Orphan Killer

First things first, I want to apologise to any of the film crew will have worked hard on this movie in some form or another. What I have to say is in no way a reflection of your overall talent or skills. This is merely a review of a movie that tried and failed. It tried to be a gory, slasher flick and it only ended up being a mean, bloody mess of a film. With its crass death metal soundtrack and anti-religion message, The Orphan Killer is a flick that does gore for gore sake and not much else.

Of course, we all know that opinions are different for everyone, so what I have to say might not reflect other people's views on the movie. Some may love it, but I personally couldn't tolerate it. Whatever way you look at it, Reel Gore Releasing wants to give everybody a chance to watch it in the best possibly way, hence a pretty wonderful Blu-ray release, which I will delve into later. For now,

The Orphan Killer is a storyless, terribly acted gorefest. Some may like that, but most will see the film as a waste of time.

BLU-RAY OPINION

All that negativity aside, the Reel Gore Releasing of The Orphan Killer is really well done Blu-ray. Fair warning, though, the first XX copies of the Blu-ray have some glitches appearing early in the film. All future copies have been fixed, but if you were an early adopter, you might want to contact them for a replacement.

The Orphan Killer is a newish movie (originally shot in 2011), so the audio and visual quality on the Blu-ray is perfectly acceptable. That is if you like that modern, cheesy looking low-budget look that most horror films have nowadays. As for the special features, you have some trailers, a music video and a whopping 90 minute Behind the scenes featurette. The feature is longer than the damn movie! Fans will definitely love that one, but even if you're not a fan, you might get a kick out of the process of making a film, even if it the end product wasn't that great.

I did like the film a little because, Brian got chased by a bear and had to fight the bear. What I didn’t like was when he killed the bear in the film. It would have been favorite if they had more imagination to the film. They both had the foreshadowing part when the sparks of the rock and the hatchet. We knew that would have lead us to him making or not making the…

When you think about a horror film, usually there is a lot of blood and gore involved but this film stayed away from the norm and took more of a realistic approach. There were no special effects to try and scare the viewers or anything of that nature. The director used real life events that could occur to grab the attention of the audience in a creepy way. There were a lot of dark undertones used as well as spooky sounds and an eerie soundtrack. In looking at the cinematography, there was a lot of fading in and out of the camera to exaggerate the horror in the film.…

Where as I normally end up arguing against why a film should be considered a horror film, this time I'm going other way and argue why Lightning Bug is a Horror film. As I stated in Horror, My Definition, a Horror film is a film that used dread and horror, while trying to evoke negative emotions. Lightning Bug does that for me, upon first viewing I wasn't that impressed and disregarded is horror elements. Instead focusing on how its a Coming of Age Drama. But after viewing the film never really settled and has passed through my mind on several occasions and when I reflect on the film it's dark and haunting undertones that remain.…

I was shock throughout watching the movie. I did not know what to expect from watching this movie, but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. This was a scary movie because it showed the social construct in society, how wealthy people get what they want while others get hurt in the process. The movie is about a successful, talented black photographer name Chris.…

BLU-RAY Scream Factory has done a nice job cleaning up the movie. There is a bit of dust, light leaks and cigarette burns present, but if you compare it to the film stock used in the MST3K episode, you can easily see how cleaned up it is. The audio is also well down, with clear dialogue and no issues or drop outs…

A Child Called It reminds me of an extremely mean bully, but this bully takes it to a whole new level. This story relates to me in a way that Dave and I have both been judged and made fun of, because our peers didn’t know what was actually occurring at the time. Whether it was family issues, loss of money, or depression, we all go through tough situations in life and this book can be somewhat of a “you’re not alone” feeling. I dislike this book because it definitely hits a spot in my heart and makes me sad, but it also contains terribly gruesome details that are difficult to read. I like this book because of the ending and that Dave overcame a situation he never thought he would be able to.…

In works such as Death’s Apprentice this issue is seen countless times throughout the novel through Nathaniel’s call to action, his internal conflicts as well as thoughts and through his self-sacrifice.…

So I’m a little behind on getting to this film, I had read a little about it a few years back, say in 2008. The film was actually released in the US in 2010 so I take a small amount of comfort in that my seeing this film was only really almost five years overdue. And let’s just come right out and state the obvious here, it’s a Frank Henenlotter film let alone the first Frank Henenlotter film since Basket Case 3 in 1992. If you are a fan of Herschel Gordon Lewis or even John Waters then I’ll make the assumption that you know who Frank Henelotter is. If you’ve even seen one of his films and liked it or maybe even have a self-esteem high enough to have modified your own genitalia … then you’re likely to really appreciate this film.…

My only complaint is that I found little Affleck's moralizing at the end kind of forced. I felt he would have at least thought it over before calling the cops. Legally, it was the right decision to call the cops. Also, he felt the child needed to go back to her mother and he probably felt the child would help sober her up. The mother kind of sobered up at the end but still seemed like a mess, which is more realistic.…
