The origins of the Cold War are basically the United Staes against the Soviet Union, capitalism verse communism. The United States and the Soviet Union have ideological differences, they believing in running the government different ways. America believes in a democracy basically a free market government. On the other hand, Russians believe in communism basically a dictatorship. George Kennan is most famously known for the “Long Telegram”, he lives in russia at the time and sends a telegram back to the United States. His long telegram talks about his view on the Soviet Union. George Kennan is known as the father of containment, which will heavily be used by President Truman. During President Turman’s presidency he tried to contain communism as much as he could, while the Cold War was bringing to get started. The Truman Doctrine is when …show more content…
There roots of American involvement were with French Indochina which included Camodia, Laos, and Vietnam. In World War II France wanted control of the region again. Ho Chi Minh wants to get ride of French and be Vietnamse Nationalism. In 1954 the battle of Dien Bien Phu happens. The French get annihilated by the Vietnamize during this battle. South and North Vietnam are cut in half as a way to compromise. Within two years they will decide what kind of government Vietnam is going to have. The United States thinks that it is a bad idea and they will be communist anyway so they do not even hold …show more content…
What that means is that Americans could watch what was going on, on their Television in their living room. There was also a lot of student activism, students were anti-war, used free speech, and even burned down draft registration centers. This war created a rise of the counterculture there were hippies who were anti establishment and would rebel against the government and parent
