There roots of American involvement were with French Indochina which included Camodia, Laos, and Vietnam. In World War II France wanted control of the region again. Ho Chi Minh wants to get ride of French and be Vietnamse Nationalism. In 1954 the battle of Dien Bien Phu happens. The French get annihilated by the Vietnamize during this battle. South and North Vietnam are cut in half as a way to compromise. Within two years they will decide what kind of government Vietnam is going to have.
