Uranus And Greek Mythology Similarities

While some people think of myths and mythology as just meaningless stories, they can actually be something that brings people together. Mythology is a field of study that is neglected in our high school, and even our college educational systems. The definition of mythology is a body or collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors,and heroes. The term “a people” refers to a culture. This means that, per this definition, two cultures can have either completely different mythologies, be nearly identical, or have some similarities and differences. She decided she would marry, and chose to marry Uranus, and soon after they had several children. First were the twelve titans, then three Cyclopes, and finally three hideous beasts, each with one-hundred arms and fifty heads. Uranus was afraid of the power of his children, and so he hid them in the recesses of the Earth. Gaia was distraught at this, and she offered a golden sickle to her children for which to kill their father. Most of them shied away, but the titan Cronus took it, then waited until it was dark and struck Uranus with the sickle. While Uranus wasn 't killed, he was severely injured. His blood spilled onto the Earth and into the ocean, and new life was born. On the land, Erinyes took to the air, Giants searched for battle, and Nymphs began playing in the streams and the forests. Aphrodite was the goddess of beauty. As previously mentioned, she was born from from the blood of Uranus being spilled on the ocean. The god Apollo was the god of music, archery, healing, light, and truth. His other job was to prepare a chariot to pull the sun across the sky. Ares was the god of war, and decided who would win the wars of man. Artemis was the goddess of hunt, and helped man when they were hunting for food. Athena, the goddess of wisdom, was also the goddess of weaving, and taught the women of Earth her trade. Demeter was the goddess of harvest, and decided which farmers would have the best crops, as well as those who would have the worst. Dionysus was the god of wine and fertility, and was actually mortal before he became a god. Gaia was the goddess of the earth, and was the first god to exist. Hades was the god of the underworld, and decided who would be punished and who would live their afterlife in paradise. Hephaestus, was the god of fire and metalworking, and provided man with several creations. The goddess Hera was the wife of zeus, and was known to be jealous. The god Hermes was the messenger god, in charge of communications between the gods. Hestia, was the goddess of the hearth, and was known for her kindness towards mankind.
