The organ has often been called “the king of instruments” because it is by far the largest; as it also produces the loudest sound of any and all instruments. The organs range in size from tiny, portable models to the enormous instruments found in large halls or churches. However, even small organs can occupy a floor area of 60+ square feet and have a height of 12 feet or more; and larger organs are much bigger, and can often occupying chambers as large as several large rooms. Small organs can contain as many as 500+ pipes; however, most are inside and not on view, whereas larger organs often contain several thousands of pipes ranging from 32 feet in length down to around 3/4 inch or less.
