There was a time in middle school where we had an assignment, we would discuss where we saw ourselves in twenty years and devise a plan in order to reach our goal. I put down that I wanted to be a teacher and told myself that it was my dream job, until my teacher took my paper and told me to do more research on this job. I learned the harsh truth and quickly changed what I wanted to be because of what I learned from my research. I was able to recognize that what I wanted to do with my learning was my choice and my teacher was there to guide me, not control me. She could of easily told me that it was the wrong choice and to choose another career but she gave me the chance to find that out on my own. He explains how he had a thirst for knowledge and a desire for education but this led him to not appreciate his family and enjoy the things around him. Throughout the essay, he discusses the difficulty of balancing out education and family, which made it hard for Rodriguez to find himself. He discusses how he wanted to be like his teachers because of his strong desire to learn, he was embarrassed of his family and their lack of education. The emotions and loneliness consumed his life for many years. Towards the end he recognizes school for helping him to realize the emotions he had felt for so long. Although all authors identify varied ways of how education can be handled by students and their educators, Freire addresses the problem of how teachers are controlling the students and proposes the solution of positive dialogue between the educators and students. Pratt and Rodriguez emphasis on their passion for learning and how the system helps students find their own way of learning to develop a mature perspective. All essays helped me realize the importance of education and how I can find my own path of learning with the help of my educators guiding me not dictating
