The Open Secret of Bullying One of the most acknowledged problems America faces on a day-to-day basis is bullying. Numerous types of bullying exist, that which includes physical, emotional and sexual abuse. This problem is happening everywhere, no matter the countless efforts put in place to prevent it. Public school systems foster a common home for bullies, yet somehow their behavior is often disregarded. Many schools have initiated a “zero-bully” tolerance program, or some have created a pledge for students to take asking them to stand up against those who put down others. The common name for this torture is more commonly known as cyber-bullying and with the recent inventions of smartphones, the victims perpetrators follow them everywhere they go. Because technology has made so many advances, it is extremely difficult for perpetrators to be traced when this happens. Many times police try to get the problem solved before it results in criminal action. While in recent years bullying has become an openly discussed problem, the severity of the issue remains behind the closed hearts of the many victims affected by it, especially with the constant fear of their bully’s threats in their hands. Everyone knows bullying has become very common all over the world. However, what many people do not know is where bullying comes from. There are many different circumstances that can cause people to start acting out as bullies. Many times these behaviors are learned from older siblings or family members. This is a result of repetitive bullying that is not being controlled in past situations. As a result of the extensive use of cell phones and social media, cyber bullying has become a widespread problem in school age children and young all the way to older generations of adults. This causes many problems when trying to find the source of the problem because so much enclosed in different parts all around the internet (Morrow 536). Cyber bulling can be done at a much greater scale because when people are able to hide, no one knows who it actually is causing all of the harm. It is extremely easy to create a fake profile and be someone else in order to destroy another human being’s life. Because of the extensive amount of law enforcement and work that has to be done to find these perpetrators and bring justice to the victims, this problem is often taken very lightly and sometimes looked over as if nothing ever occurred. There are so many websites available to so many different ages, but for the majority of them anyone can gain access at any time. Because of the abundance of online chat groups, younger children do not always realize what they are getting themselves into and can be extremely offended mentally by what older children and adults have to say not knowing they are children.
