The poem unfolds by a portrayal of a religion that calls everyone from all walks of life to bestow upon it. Speaker stressed that people regardless of their physical characteristics, political persuasion and beliefs too will be drawn to the religion. Cecil also portrayed his attitude towards the obsession of football which he despises. He is meant to tell people how football can be a malignant influence for certain people that they can go as far as committing crimes, hurting themselves etcetera. The poem is heavily based on metaphor of religion and football. Throughout the poem, we can simply confer that whether or not football is religion we should never forget that each and every person has their own beliefs.
