Jack is in his dead brother's room when his mom comes in looking for him. Jack tells her that the reason he quit was because he felt horrible about his brother going dirt bike riding even though he knew that he was. That ended up being the day his brother died and Jack thought it was his fault. His dad eventually came in and both of his parents told him that it wasn't his fault. Then his mom explained that they found something in his brothers room that was a present for Jack. His mom then went and got it. His mom said "I've been waiting for just the right time"(Lupica pg. 137). The present was way late. The right time should have been when quit. If they have already opened the present, which they have, they would have none that but Lupica saves it to make a bigger event. The present ended up being a Dustin Pedroia signed ball with a note inside. Jack picks the ball up and says "'Is this...? Real?' his dad said.'It is'"(Lupica 138). This is saying the ball is authentic. The question is though how the heck did a fourteen year get Pedroia signed ball without his parents knowing. This really just doesn't seem realistic. Both Lupica moving an event and making the climax a little unrealistic didn’t make this story look any
