The Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in New York City towering 110 stories each. The Twin Towers provided about 10 million square feet of office space for nearly 35,000 people and 430 companies. After the towers where completed in 1973, they were the tallest buildings in the world until the Sears Tower was built in 1974 at 1,450 feet. The Twin Towers attracted about 70,000 commuters and tourist’s every day.
The towers were extremely tall. The North Tower was 1,368 feet and 1,730 feet with its large antenna. The South Tower stood 1,362-feet high. Standing on the top you could see 45 miles or more in every direction. That is far enough to see all five New York City boroughs, (Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.) Also standing on top of the Twin Towers you can see New Jersey and Connecticut. Each tower’s estimated weight is more than 250,000 tons. Each tower also had 99 elevators and 21,800 windows. Each floor was one acre in size and there was enough concrete in the towers to build a five foot wide sidewalk from New York City to Washington, DC.
