Ethical Issues In Religion Essay

The article that I have chosen is based about women who live in Nepal and are part of the Hindu religion. It is said to believe that when women who are going through their menstrual cycle are considered to be impure meaning it is disrespectful to the gods. In order for this to be treated, when they found out that they are going through their cycle they are set to go to the cow shed. The living conditions in the cowshed during their period is unfortunate as it is not ideal place. The women that has goes through ‘feel horrible’ and ‘wishes that they don’t have periods’ which results to if this is ethical. However through the eyes of other people, male’s perspective, they believe that if they go through their period and touch everything it is said it would grow upon a curse. To an extent of where it could cause death which is another perspective to come across. In this essay, I will discuss this ethical issue based on the utilitarianism theory where it focuses on an action that produces more happiness and less suffering is a good action and how this is not ethical with utilitarianism. In order to do this it focuses on more on the outcome of the action whether than the action itself (Rachels, 1969). If the outcome of the action are positive, then it is ethical however if it is the other way around, it is unethical to do so (Markovits,n.d) Using utilitarianism the outcome of Nepalese women are unethical.
