On a sunny and beautiful day, Sally was riding home in a school bus because her mom just couldn’t get off work early enough to pick her up. She doesn’t mind though, because it’s been a pretty amazing day overall with her acing the reading test she was so worried about, finishing all her homework while waiting for the bus, and she still has plans to go to the movies later with some friends. With all the excitement she starts to daydream. Almost automatically, without thought, while getting off the bus she doesn’t see the rope ladder awaiting to take her to the safety of solid ground and she misses a step and falls to her death. Just like that in one moment all the good in that one day is ruined because she wasn’t paying attention to her surroundings. Now if we change the scenario and the chasm wasn’t there that danger is still prominent if cars don’t stop at unloading bus zones. If one student were to cross the street expecting the cars to be stopped, because of the bus unloading zone, that child would be hurt or killed because of the driver who was just in too much of a hurry or maybe even distracted. The fact that the creator of the ad put a calming color to go against the dark abyss of the chasm has a really strong effect and gives the audience a sense of the underlying danger. Although the children in the middle aren’t wearing any specific or prominent color they are all bright and lively in contrast to the dark chasm beneath them where my eyes travel next. The darkness of the chasm definitely gives the viewer a negative feeling of fear and makes the bright colors of the day stand out even more than they would on their
