In the movie The Official Story, the character Roberto is portrayed as a complicated man that not only struggles with internal conflict, but with external conflict as shown in his interactions with others. Throughout the film, he tries to hold onto to his respect and dignity that he had gained with his governmental job. However, as a result of being ostracized by his family along with his tumultuous relationship with his wife Alicia, Roberto essentially loses all that he has gained and cycles back to his beginnings. Roberto escapes his lower class background by his military leadership which allows him to move upward in the socioeconomic hierarchy.
