If each family member is not ready to go by the time he got home from work, then the boys would get kicked in the butts. For example, he does not allow Yunior to eat anything before getting in to the car. “If you eat anything, I’m going to beat you,” he said to Yunior (Diaz 536). The father uses the trips he takes with Yunior as a way to see his mistress without his wife knowing it. The amount of time it takes for the father to clean the car he could be doing something with his family.
