The Life of a Single Mom
Why are there so many single moms in Chicago? I think the reason why there are many single is because of crime and being irresponsible. In the article Happy Fathers Day Mom by Abigail Foerstner, it talks about single moms and it relate to Penelope in the book The Odyssey because in the book she is a single mom raising her son Telemachus and how rough it was it was raising him without her husband.
In the book, The Odyssey Penelope faces many challenges raising her son Telemachus alone. In the book, The Odyssey Penelope can be described as a good single mother because she protects her son from many dangers of the world. ‘ We do boy things. We go out and shoot baskets, or he does and I watch”(Forester,1). This relates to my topic sentence because it says that single moms watch out for her children. In the book, The Odyssey Penelope can be seen as a good mother because she tries to protect her son from people wanting to fight him for the throne. In the real world, there are many dangers such as gangs, drugs, and sex, so single moms have to protect their children from these kinds of problems in the real world. They would also have to learn how to protect their children as single moms. Single moms can be described as great moms because they have to work really hard than moms who have their husband. Single moms have to feed their child clothes them and give them a roof over their heads. They also have act as father figure and not just a mother figure because for single moms act as a father figure is very difficult for single moms because they have to teach son manly things as playing sports or going fishing and hunting they also would have to know how to deal with boy problems such as getting into fights. I think being a single mother is hard because You have to take care of their school, food, housing and taking out their son. ‘There was no time for a movie in the evening or bowling. I kept having to give up things I wanted to do with the boys”(Forester,2). This quote relates to the topic because it is saying that single moms work so hard that they don't have time to spend with their son. It is also saying that mom works so hard get money to provide for their sons like food shelter and gifts. In the book, the book The Odyssey Penelope did not have much time to spend with her son because she had to worry about the men living in her home and she had to worry about the throne. She also had to worry about the men living in her home raping her maids. Single mom always had to worry about money to provide a better life for their son. They also had to worry about their child safety.
